Interview with Amy Atlas

If you don’t already know by now Amy creates the most insanely gorgeous and unique dessert displays. Each table is truly one-of-a-kind and absolutely divine! We adore her fabulous and decadent dessert displays which is why we are ecstatic to share this exclusive Interview with you. Thanks Amy!

Q: Amy,you are sought after by many celebrities for your remarkable dessert displays which is so incredible. Tell us when and how you began your business? Did you know this was something you always wanted to do?

A: My business started out as a hobby. I’ve always loved to entertain and at my own parties I surprised my guests with my dessert
tables. At the time, the concept of a dessert table was novel and my friends and family were in complete awe. Soon word of mouth began to spread through my friends and my business organically grew into a business.

Q: There are so many amazing details we love about your dessert tables. Where do you find your inspiration to create such unique displays?

A: First, I look to get inspiration from my clients. It could be a pattern, color, or theme that they love. I encourage my clients to think out of the box with what inspires them. The inspiration can come from anywhere.

Q: It must take you quite a while to pull the entire theme/ color palette together and gather all the goodies for each table. Does the design process involve several weeks of preparation?

A: Yes, the design process does involve several weeks of preparation. Many people think that we just throw it together, but every detail on the table is carefully thought out.

Q: You must love sweets we hope! If you were to create a table just for you, what would you serve and how would you design
it?

A: Love this question! I’m a huge fan of sweet and salty so it would involve lots of sweet and salty combos like chocolate covered pretzels. I am also the biggest fan of chocolate and peanut butter. I could possibly keep Reeses in business. Although it wouldn’t be the best for my guests (because of nut allergies), if it were up to me I’d have an all Reeses dessert bar.

Q: We know dessert tables are your specialty, do you also design any other types of tables such as Appetizer, drink or gift displays?

A: Yes, we can incorporate our sensibility into any kind of party design and have
created appetizer, drink and gift displays.

Q: All of your displays are so beautiful and rich with color. Do you have a favorite you have designed?

A: I love each and every one of my dessert displays, but a few of my favorites are the Moroccan dessert display we created for Sunday Suppers, the all white classic dessert display, and the yellow and black damask dessert display.

Q: Your business is in such high demand how do you manage your workload, interviews, and constant travel? Meaning how do you
find balance between work and family?

A: The balance is a struggle and I just addressed this on my blog (http://blog.amyatlas.com/2010/07/ask-amy-the-balancing-act/). I’m constantly working at it. One of the key things I’ve found is to stop expecting perfection from each part of your life.

Q: What is the best advice you have ever received?

A: Never give up. My father told me that all the time growing up and that is how I am
wired. If someone tells me I can’t do
something, you can bet I’m going to!

Q: We admire you for your success and hard
work. What advice would you give our readers that want to pursue a hobby/dream they are strongly passionate about?

A: If you are passionate about something, then you are likely to be successful at it. Stay focused and pace yourself with your business model.

Q: What do you love most about your job?

A: I love that I have a creative outlet. I’ve always had a creative side and now I get
to tap into my creative side for my work.
