1. Tell us a little about your beginnings: did you always envision you would be a wedding planner and as well-known as you are now?
I started in the invitation business, designing custom invites. Then my clients started asking me to design their events. Then they started asking me to coordinate their events and one thing led to another and the business started. I never in a million years ever thought that I would ever be well known. But I’m blessed and appreciative that I have a nice business.
2. You are known for orchestrating some of the most glamorous and beautiful weddings in the industry. Are there any favorite’s you have planned and why?
I really like most of my events that we plan. It is the people you work with that make them stand out. I have become very good friends with a lot of my brides. Jackie Sandler, Avril Levigne, Heidi Klum and Jenna Dewan I would say I still talk to regularly…one of my favorites would be Heidi, she has been amazing throughout the years!
3. What design elements do you feel are important for creating a fabulous wedding?
Each design should reflect the client. Each budget is different and every couples priorities are very different. The design needs to be cohesive from the ceremony, to cocktails to the reception.
4. Where do you find your inspiration to keep creating fresh and new ideas for your weddings?
Oh I read everything! From bridal to decor to floral magazines. I check out vintage books from the library. I love reading blogs. And I go to crazy shops and flea markets…Traveling is great to refresh my mind.
5. What is your favorite and most satisfying element in creating your fabulous weddings?
My favorite part is taking a room that is not great and transforming it into an environment that no one know where they are…you can be in the most elegant place or a casual luncheon…I always hope they focus the most on the bride and groom…
6. What is the ultimate prize for you in creating weddings?
The Ultimate Prize is to be chosen to create memories for a lifetime.
7. Any advice you would give to couples before beginning their wedding planning?
Keep your sence of humor…remember the goal at the end is to spend the rest of your lives together.
8. We all know things don’t always go as perfect as we have planned. Are there any mishaps or disasters you have embarked upon in the process of planning weddings?
Well I have had cakes fall, a bride cut her foot the morning of her wedding, vendors not show up…but because it is such a magical day, the magic kinda spreads itself on the challenges and somehow it all works out.
9. We hear you have just recently opened Owen’s Market (congrats)! How do you manage to balance family, planning weddings, and owning a specialty food market?
Well I think the market was stretching it a bit…boy that’s a tough business! But I try to manage each with passion…but my family comes first always.
10. Lastly, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love being home! Nothing better than laying around with my hubby and kids watching tv or playing games or sunday family dinner….oh and I have a shopping problem …beautiful clothes are my weakness.
